DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

At the night I born my father didn’t come to hospital, he was wounded in war and was struggling with death in another hospital. When I was 7 government closed schools because of Saddam’s missile attacks to Tehran and we continue learning alphabet from TV. Then gulf wars started and then 9/11 and some years later Ahmadinejad came on power and and then ISIS invasıons started. In 2014 when ISIS was planning to invade to Erbil, I was directing an advertising spot for tourism in Erbil. There was no way out, airports were closed for days, no gas, no electric, no hope. shadow of war never let the people of middle east to see a sunny day in the sunniest part of the world. Hazar 40 a Turkish war photographer who lost one of his eyes under torture by jihadies lost his daughter Lale, left his wife Ceylan and his hope. When he faces to his torturer inIstanbul, revenge looks like a light at the end of the tunnel. He finds a way out of darkness.I studied cinema in Tehran. From 2009 to 2011 with Abbas Kiarostami in Karnameh film school. I made 8 short films since that days but Iranian cinema style was not enough for storytelling in the way I like. Once Mr. Kiarostami gave me a story to shoot, I shot that in Noir atmosphere that wasn’t trendy in Iran. But he encouraged me to follow the style I like and not copy anyone. I left Iran for living in Turkey in 2011. I knew Persian and English and some Arabic but that wasn’t enough for my new life, so I learned Turkish and Kurdish during these years. Istanbul is my new hometown since that day. I met Patrick Graham in Erbil, when he was reporting ISIS invasion news for a Canadian agency. We started writing together from that day this is our second co-writing script. I believe that the story will attract Turkish and International audience. The premise is what all people around the world are familiar with, but there’s more wondering details and humanistic aspects to watch that Game Birds presents.
